Learn about the major sources of legal authority (cases, laws, and regulations), free Internet sources, and strategies for handling legal reference questions.

Join us for one of two workshops being held in July. One workshop will take place in Seattle at the Gallagher Law Library, and the other workshop will take place in Spokane at the Spokane County Library District, North Spokane Branch.

 April’s “tour” will be a presentation about 2-1-1 services.  The presentation will take place on the University of Washington campus on Wednesday April 8th from 2-3pm with a happy hour following at the College Inn at 3:30pm.  [This event has been cancelled].Date/Time: April 8th 2-3pmLocation: Mary Gates Hall 258, University of Washington Campus (UW Campus Map)

Our first trivia night was a great success, with 30 MLIS students and professional librarians battling it out on their laptops.

Tours are free and are open to all.

Tours will take place on the first Wednesday of each month, beginning on February 4, of the King County Law Library, and March 4, of the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library.

The first tour this year will take place at the King County Law Library

(KCLL) on Wednesday February 4th from 3-4:30pm, followed by a happy hour at the Triple Door in downtown Seattle.

Rita Kaiser who is a Reference Services Librarian at KCLL will discuss the following topics:

1. How to translate legal questions into language you can understand 2. When to refer these questions to KCLL 3. What resources to use to answer legal based questions on your own

Teams or individuals will be asked questions inspired by library reference questions and will have to search the internet to find the answers. The team with the most correct answers at the end of an hour of searching will win gift certificates to Third Place Books and snazzy RIG swag. This event will be held at Cafe Racer (5825 Roosevelt Way NE) on Jan 18th from 5-7 pm. Cafe Racer also offers full coffee service, a selection of beers, wines, and liquors, as well as a full food menu with amazing sandwiches and possibly the best hot-dogs in Seattle, so you can be well fed and quench your thirst while you have some trivia fun.

We had 14 RIG members and friends show up to Far West Billiards to compete for bookstore gift cards, eat some appetizers, and meet new library people. This was such a success, we already have a volunteer working to bring us a similar event in Seattle. Stay tuned….
