This looks like an issue ripe for discussion and action. Please read the article “Have We Created a Monster?” from Library Journal 9/15/2009 – it talks about database pricing and usage, a real issue for our library. We’re cutting the number of our GALE databases nearly in half, and they are only dropping the fee by less than 10%. It sure feels like we’re being gouged, but an issue like this will only get addressed if we approach it at the state and national level. If you’re interested (I hope you are) use your contacts on listservs, FaceBook, and other professional networks. Who knows, this may be the key to RIG conference and workshop presentations too.
